Elders week 6 – Apples

Our plentiful Elders met in celebration of Apple day with all things apple-ly filling our minds and hearts with a joyful meander through ancient times and Greek mythology to the modern day with quantum physics of the universe & Apple and Atari computers! We were treated to original, juice-filled performance poetry, shared memories of our childhoods and family orchard connections, helpful cures for warts, scrumping tips, Arthurian legends, 7500 varieties of apples with wondrous names.

Our multi sensory apple tasting quiz got all our senses working together in teams: “The Apple Blossoms”   “Adam’s Apples”and “The Detetioners” battled it out for the prize of The Golden apple!

We tapped like  tappers, moving and grooving and cleaned the insides of enormous cider barrels with our hips! We sang Andrew’s sisters inspired songs and made new friends with shared interests and felt inspired by our Community.

Our natural dyes developed further through blues and deep reds and oranges-who knew? Will they too become part of the Beige rainbow?

There was Apple and Quince bottom block printing, with a smattering of leaves and hares to add to our delicious tote bags.

Toffee apples with Meg’s unburned Quince toffee were munched and stuck our teeth together like the days of old!

We shared lunch of bread and cheese, egg sandwiches, Apple crisps, Windfall apple cake and Tarte Tartin and hot Apple crumble! Wow what a feast! We drank mulled apple juice and plenty of tea.

A beautiful day – Thank you to you all!

We will next meet again after the 1/2 term break on 2nd November with Conkers and Chestnuts at the ready!
