Elders 10 – Yew and Yours

What resilience, those tough Elders who rocked up on this damp, dull windy day in the woods.

Our exchange on yew included a great rendition of ‘I want to be like You You You’ led by Nicky. The poisonous quality of the yew was described. Was this why Yew was in church yards, away from animals and children who may otherwise be tempted to eat its leaves or fruit. A 450,000 spear head made of yew was found somewhere in Engalnd. Yes, yew good for bow (arrow our of oak) and spear making.

We made our wreaths, with a good structure of bent hazel, many skillfully woven by Isa. Using ivy, holly, and red hips, we created our halo’s and door decorations.

Chris had carved some magnificent wooden objects to decorate the loom, including an oak leave with acorns.

Martin bought us news of Honk Kong where he had been visiting his family, loitering on a beach.

To keep warm some dancing, to Marvin Gaye, among others.
