It was our Works Outing, as Leslie described it. The outing of Elders as part of Friends of Kaliwood summer meets. Peter came with us, fully recovered.
Who knew I would brush the dust of my Russian and practice it with a Russian linquist – one of our Elders – on the car ride to Raveningham. She and her husband were teachers at Summerhill school, Leiston. Amazing the rich lives all around us.
We entered the world of Mythos of stories and unexpected adventures in a Norfolk garden. We met our friends and their creative spirit: Meg Amsdens intriguing Six Swans, with woven nettle cord; Jenny Nutbeems startling Starling stories; and Garbrielle Maughan’s knitted Ash tree, complete with bracket fungus, bird feeders, and so much more to discover. Our ultimate aim was to see the work of Kally Davidson, and it did not disappoint. She let us meander our interpretation (lampshade, fish) before she revealed the unfinished spider story, Ah yes we all said. How beautiful it was.
Half way through, Peter and I walked the dogs around one of my favourite trees, a veritable skirt of an oak, and another I had not noticed before, just about hanging on in there, it’s bark now forming in its hollow inside.
Thank you Raveningham and Kally for our works outing on this August day
