Elders 12 – the Firing

We gathered in mist, ate healthful Lesley soup and then sun broke through. We shared our thoughts from the past week and how things had been.

Then carefully wrapped and lay our clay creations in coffee grounds, bamboo plates, on a bed of coffee husk, a sprinkling of citrus peels and walnut shells… all to make their own fascinating magic with fire to colour our clay pieces! Newspaper and cloth wrappings completed the festive process then we carefully transported our parcel delights through the woodland paths, across water filled ditches and to the Fire Pit! (waterlogged initially but some sawdust sprinkled in cleverly dealt with the sitting water!)
The precious things were placed within the fire and a ceremonial lighting. Thanks to Michael for the video.

More wood added then a protective layer of corrugation topped it off, leaving the fire to do its job!

Tea and scones back at the camp, we rounded off by telling our highlights of the day.
Next week, our final session of the year, we get to discover the magical effects of fire and alchemy on our clay artworks!
