After precise measuring of chemicals by Kally, the magic began when we created our scarf pattens (those that enjoyed Tie Dye), using pegs, string or bends.
The lid raised on the vat of Indigo, revealed the tell tale shimmer at the surface, and in Kally gently placed our works of art inside the blue liquid. Once lifted out, and oxygen in the air mixed, the colour turned.
Some died in the woad mix, and some did both indigo and woad.
Our opening circle, our hive mind, in an almost full tent, (as Caroline recorded) revealed the measures we took to deter the beasties that liked our beans and veg as much as we did:
- Marianne combs the greenflies with her fingers, moving ladybirds on to the plants
- Box hedge caterpillar and it’s skeletal results discussed. Gill has a chemical with instructions in German, which Marianne could read. Virginia’s sister sprayed the skeleton and leaves be.
- Esther’s poly-tunnel is challenged by mice
- How to control bamboo? Get a panda
- Need to get rid of moles? it’s crown imperial
- What’s the verdict on Ragwort?
- Asking bees to kindly leave works
- Blackflies are deterred by marmite
The photos say it all, a glorious day. Thank you Kally for the alchemy

Kally and Marianne are this months pin up girls on the Kinda Calendar
