Caroleena’s story started with our opening question – What/ where is home to you? Here are some of our answers
- Home is wherever I hang my hat. I feel at home in these woods.
- Is where i feel at home, which could be in a Russian kitchen
- Is where Laurie is. Is where Marianne is
- Once, in a place in Kenya, I said, I’ve come home. And on Lord Hereford’s Knobb
- In Aldeburgh, when I used to go as a child for 20 years, away from my immediate family, where I felt free
- In nature, as I realise I need and want less and less
- Minsmere, where I lived in a wood cabin for 30 years
- In the woods, like here, where there is nothing to be afraid of
- Home is what has always been around me, in all the different homes I’ve moved, which is Dawnford Yates, and now, is upwards
- Is where I feel safe, protected, stable and secure, and with people I love around me
- Once, while hiking in America, I felt at home with the people I met on the trail who walked with me. The journey became my home.
- My little house, my bath, where I know where everything is
- Where my handbag is. Home is here
Carolenna’s story

Carolina story started in Croydon (1) where she was born. But she was very ill as a child, and because of that her parents took took her out out of London to Hadlow (2) in Kent. She went to primary school which she did not like because she had to start again again with unjoined up writing and then to a secondary school which you loved. The secondary school was in Tunbridge Wells and there they had Bunsen burners she began her love of science. Her father worked in a brewery (where they were allocated 8 pints of beer a day which had to be drink on the premises!) and their playground was the Brewery yard the crates they used to make constructions and she learned now to roller skate on the loading bay. After her father was made redundant they moved to Edmonton (3), North London.
From here Caroleena escaped to Italy, a language she fell in love with, working with a family from Milan (4). The wife was very firery, and everyone escaped when she began her fire.
From Edmonton she moved to Woodbridge (5) then Ipswich (6) Where she lived with her husband for 12 years – he was originally from Ipswich.
Leaving her husband, she moved to Beccles (7). However she got a job at the Ashmoloen Museum in Oxford – a job she loved, being recruited with 60 others. She lived first in Watfield (8) and then Farmington (9).
In Faringdon she bought a house, which provided her with rental income for 3 travelling years: India, SriLanka, New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Mayanmar, Reunion island. She lived out of a suitcase, travelling for 6 months then returning to the UK, where she earned money working as a carer, living in, all over the UK.
She moved to Brackley where she thought she fell in love again. Returned to Faringdon.
She landed in Halesworth (13), where she now lives
